Cool Wiring 3 Light Switches In One Box

Wiring 3 light switches in one box. To connect the switches simply score the wire with your wire stripper and push the insulation to expose about 3 4 in. Make the pigtail in the box into which the line cable enters or box 1. Wrap the tape around the wire nut and onto the wires.
Because the electrical code as of the 2011 nec update requires a neutral wire in most new switch boxes a 3 wire cable runs between the light and switch. Therefore the 2 switches the light 3 way. Tape the wire nut to the wires with electrical tape.
In the ceiling light fixture electrical box one black wire from a 3 way switch gets connected to the black load wire on the light fixture. There will be an additional wire needed often red to connect the switches together to a dedicated screw or input on the switch that is specifically marked for this purpose. A box with three switches is crowded enough without adding extra wire connectors and pigtails.
Terminate the light feed to one of the two screws on the new switch. Turn the power off and mark the wires before you disconnect them. Just like before twist the three wires together screw on a cap then connect the jumper to the switch in box 1 and the single black wire in box 2 to that switch.
Splice the hot wire the feed for the other loads and a short black pigtail together. Splice the white wires together and make pigtails of the ground wires and connect one to each switch.
Step 5 run two wire cable from switch 3 to the light fixture using fish tape fed through the hole above switch 3 across the ceiling to the fixture hole. Run three wire cable from switch 1 to switch 2 and two wire cable from switch 2 to switch 3.
